Humidity Indicator

Humidity Indicator Cards (HIC’s) are printed with moisture sensitive spots which respond to various levels of humidity with a visible color change from blue to pink.

The humidity inside dry packed barrier bags can be monitored by including an HIC inside. When the bag is opened, the card can be examined for proper dryness inside the bag. This indicates that the barrier bag and desiccant functioned correctly.

  • Materials: Blotting paper impregnated with cobaltous chloride.
  • Accuracy: Based on ambient temperature of 75oF.
  • Tolerance: Approx. 2.5% for each 10°F away from 75°F. Type: 5%, 10%, 60% (3 Spot, Dots)
  • Standards: Complies with future release of IPC/ JEDEC J-STD-033B

Quality Testing Method: Static Alternation Testing Method is the most frequently-used method in testing the humidity sensitivity of HIC. Testing Information Testing Equipment: Temperature and humidity chamber. The chamber should have some transparent part through which users can observe inside HIC testing procedures. If the chamber is not transparent or just translucent, the chamber should have enough big window for observation.

Procedures notes

The samples need be hung in the chamber for convenient observation from outside In the condition that RH is 10%±1% lower than the critical RH indicated on the HIC and temperature is 73.5±2°F (23±1°C), samples should be kept in this static air environment for 24hous and indicator should change a little color. If it hasn’t any change in color or change completely into pink color, it shows the indicator is unqualified
